Sir Edmund Kerchever Chambers 1866-1954, English literary critic and Shakespearean scholar. He wrote The Mediaeval Stage (1903), The Elizabethan Stage (1923), Arthur of Britain (1927), William Shakespeare (1930), and studies of S. T. Coleridge (1938) and Matthew Arnold (1947).

Chambers, Sir E. K. ( Sir Edmund Kerchever Chambers) (1866–1954), Shakespearian scholar and dramatic historian, served in the education department of the civil service, 1892–1926. His major works of dramatic history are The Medieval Stage (2 vols, 1903), The Elizabethan Stage (4 vols, 1923), and William Shakespeare: A Study of the Facts and Problems (2 vols, 1930). As well as editions of all Shakespeare's plays for the Red Letter Shakespeare and an important lecture on ‘The Disintegration of Shakespeare’ (1924) he published Arthur of Britain (1927), a synthesis and reassessment based on available evidence; editions of Donne, Milton, Beaumont and Fletcher, among others; and the Oxford Book of Sixteenth Century Verse (1932).
