Sargon I
Sargon I (c.2334–c.2279 bc) King of Akkad (c.2316–c.2279 bc). One of the first of the great Mesopotamian conquerors, he was a usurper who founded his capital at Agade (Akkad), from which his kingdom took its name. Sargon conquered Sumeria and Upper Mesopotamia and extracted tribute from lands as far w as the Mediterranean.
