Saragossa

Saragossa (Zaragoza), Aragón/Spain Salduba, Caesarea Augusta, Saraqustah The Celtiberian town of Salduba was captured by the Romans in 27 bc; it was made into a colony and renamed after Caesar Augustus. In c.714 it was taken by the Moors and renamed again with an Arabic version of the Roman name; the present name is also a version of the Roman name. It was the capital of the Kingdom of Aragón in 1118–1497, having been recaptured by Alfonso I (c.1073–1134), King of Aragón (1104–34), in 1118.
