Samuel Rolles Driver
Samuel Rolles Driver 1846–1914, English clergyman and biblical scholar. He was regius professor of Hebrew and canon of Christ Church, Oxford, and from 1876 to 1884 was a member of the Old Testament Revision Committee. His chief work is his Introduction to the Literature of the Old Testament (1891). He collaborated with C. A. Briggs and Francis Brown in preparing A Hebrew and English Lexicon of the Old Testament (completed 1906). |

Driver, Samuel Rolles
Driver, Samuel Rolles (1846–1914), OT and Hebrew scholar. From 1883 he was Regius Professor of Hebrew in Oxford. His sound judgement and caution did much to foster the spread of the critical view of the OT in Britain.
