Smith, Samuel Francis

Smith, Samuel Francis (1808–95),Boston Baptist clergyman, who while a student at Andover Theological Seminary wrote the patriotic hymn “America” (1831). His verses were collected in Poems of Home and Country (1895), and he was also the author of a book on mythology, travel sketches, and other prose.
