Saint Stephen

Saint Stephen town (1991 pop. 4,931), SW N.B., Canada, on the St. Croix River opposite Calais, Maine. The two towns, connected by an international bridge, form virtually a single community. St. Stephen was founded by Loyalists after the American Revolution.

Saint Stephen, Canada, USA Canada (New Brunswick): founded as Scoodic in 1783 and, after being renamed Morristown and Dover Hill, was renamed again in 1786 after St Stephen Parish which took its name from a surveyor, Stephen Pendleton. ‘Saint’ was added to match the practice of surrounding parishes.
