Monica, St
Monica, St (c.331–87). Mother of St Augustine of Hippo. A cult of St Monica began in the Middle Ages. In 1430 her relics were transferred to Rome, to the church of S. Agostino. She is frequently patron saint of associations of Christian mothers. Feast day, 27 Aug.

Monica, St
Monica, St (332–c.387), mother of St Augustine of Hippo. She is often regarded as the model of Christian mothers for her patience with her son's spiritual crises, which ended with his conversion in 386. Her feast day is 27 August (formerly 4 May).
