Lambert, St
Lambert, St (c.635–before 705/6), martyr. He was Bp. of Tongeren/Maastricht from c.670, though exiled from his see for political reasons from c.675 to 682. It seems clear that he suffered a violent death, but the circumstances are differently recorded. Feast day, 17 Sept.; of the ‘Translation’ (of his remains to Liège in 718), 31 May.

Lambert, St
Lambert, St (c.635–c.705), bishop of Maastricht and patron of Liége; he was venerated as a martyr because his violent death was attributed by later biographers to his having reproved the Frankish ruler Pepin II (687–714) for adultery. His feast day is 17 September.
