Labre, St Benedict Joseph
Labre, St Benedict Joseph (1748–83), pilgrim and mendicant saint. Born near Béthune, he was rejected by the Trappists and the Carthusians as unsuitable for community life and found his vocation in a life of solitude and pilgrimage. He visited most of the leading sanctuaries in Europe. Feast day, 16 Apr.
