Saint‐Maur
Saint‐Maur, Paris/France The full name is Saint‐Maur‐des‐Fossés. Its name comes from the abbey founded here by Benedictine monks from Saint‐Maur‐sur‐le‐Loire, who had fled from the Viking invaders in the 7th century. St Maurus was a 6th‐century monk; fossés comes from the Latin fossa ‘ditch’, a reference to the original fortifications.
