Round House

round house

round house, a name given to square or rectangular cabins built on the quarterdeck of passenger ships and East Indiamen in the 18th–19th centuries, the poop deck often forming the roof. They were called round because one could walk round them; they corresponded to what was called the coach in a sailing warship.
