Sukenick, Ronald
Sukenick, Ronald (1932–2004),Brooklyn‐born author, educated at Cornell and Brandeis, directed the creative writing program at the University of Colorado. His books include Up (1968), a satirical novel compounded of autobiography and fantasy in telling of a young man's maturing and his attempts to write a first novel; Out (1973), a novel about disaffected young New Yorkers of the 1960s trying to find a better life in southern California; 98.6 (1975), about life on an isolated Far Western commune; and Blown Away (1986), a curious tale related to Hollywood. The Death of the Novel (1969) and The Endless Short Story (1986) collect his stories, also radically innovative in style and structure. Other works include a study of Wallace Stevens (1967), Down and In (1987), a personal view of Manhattan bars, and In Form (1985), essays on the nature of fiction, prose, and, with Stevens, poetry.
