Fréart de Chambray, Roland

Fréart de Chambray, Roland (1606–76). French exponent of Classicism, his Parallèle de l'Architecture Antique et de la Moderne (Parallel of Ancient and Modern Architecture—1650) was an important source for students of the works of Palladio, Scamozzi, Serlio, Vignola, and others. It appeared in English in a translation by John Evelyn as A Parallel of the Ancient Architecture with the Modern (1664).
