Robert of Gloucester
Robert of Gloucester , fl. 1260–1300, English chronicler. Possibly a monk of Gloucester, he is known only from the vernacular metrical chronicle of English history that bears his name. The chronicle, which covers the period from the legendary Brut to 1270, may have been written by more than one person, for the two recensions vary in fullness of treatment. It is important both for philological studies and as a historical source for the Barons' War in the reign of Henry III. |
