Cunninghame Graham, Robert Bontine
Cunninghame Graham, Robert Bontine (1852–1936). During a flamboyant and varied career he was a rancher in Argentina, an outspoken MP, and a traveller in remote parts of the world, particularly in Spanish America where he gained an intimate knowledge of gaucho life and of the older civilization surviving from the period of Spanish rule. His many stories, books, and articles include remarkable and exotic tales of travel. Mogreb-el-Acksa (1898) recounts his attempt to reach the forbidden city of Tarudant in Morocco. Other titles include Thirteen Stories (1900), Success (1902), Scottish Stories (1914), and The Horses of the Conquest (1930); he also wrote several volumes of Latin-American history.
