Rishon le-Zion

Rishon le-Zion (Heb., ‘First of Zion’). Hebrew title of the Sephardi head of the rabbis of Israel. From 1920, the Rishon le-Zion was given the additional title of hakham bashi (Chief Rabbi) of Erez Israel.
