Richard Coeur de Lion

Richard Coeur de Lion

Richard Coeur de Lion, a verse romance in 7,136 lines of short couplets dating from the early 14th cent. It is assumed that the source is Anglo-Norman, dating from about 1230–50. The poem describes the discomfiture of the Saracens in the course of the Third Crusade and breaks off, unfinished, when a three-year truce is arranged.
