Alsop, Richard
Alsop, Richard (1761–1815), one of the Connecticut Wits, frequently collaborated with other members of the group in such light verse as The Echo and The Political Greenhouse. His serious poetry, including American Poems (1793) and The Charms of Fancy (1856), is conventional, imitative, and bookish.

Richard Alsop ôl´səp , 1761–1815, American author, b. Middletown, Conn. Best remembered as one of the Connecticut Wits , he collaborated with Theodore Dwight and others in writing light satiric verse for the Political Greenhouse and the Echo. |
