Remagen
Remagen a town on the Rhine in German where, in March 1945, U.S. forces stormed across a bridge that was about to be blown up by the defending Germans. They captured the bridge intact, making it the only Rhine bridge to be captured in the war. This allowed for an Allied bridgehead on the eastern side of the Rhine and was a major blow to the Germans, who expected to make the Rhine their final major line of defense on the western front.
