Ramsgate
Ramsgate, South Africa, UK 1. South Africa (KwaZulu‐Natal): founded in 1922 just south of Margate and named after the Ramsgate in England to mirror the English pair of towns.2. UK (England): formerly Remmesgate ‘Raven's Gap’, a reference to the gap in the chalk hills which leads to the sea, from the Old English hræfn ‘raven’ and geat ‘gap’ or ‘pass’. What the ‘raven’ meant is not clear and it may have simply been a personal name.
