Rajkot
Rajkot , city (1991 pop. 654,490), Gujarat state, W central India, on the Aji River. Formerly the capital of the Rajkot princely state (to 1948) and Saurashtra state (1948-56), Rajkot is a district administrative headquarters and a commercial, industrial, and educational center. Textiles are the most important manufacture. Poultry and cattle are raised nearby. |

Rājkot, Gujarāt/India ‘Fort of the King’ from kot ‘fort’ and rāja ‘king’. It was once the capital of the former princely state of Saurāshtra.
