Prentice Mulford

Mulford, Prentice

Mulford, Prentice (1834–91),California humorist and journalist, whose newspaper writings earned him a local reputation. Prentice Mulford's Story (1889) is an account of his life up to 1872, when he left California, and The Swamp Angel (1888) is a description of his Thoreau‐like retreat to the woods of New Jersey in the 1880s. His attitude of mind changed during this period, and he turned to writing theosophic essays.
