Porte

Porte in full, the Sublime Porte or the Ottoman Porte: the Ottoman court at Constantinople. The name dates from the early 17th century, and comes from French la Sublime Porte ‘the exalted gate’, translation of the Turkish title of the central office of the Ottoman government.
