Port Augusta, South Australia/Australia Kurdnatta Founded in 1852 and given the additional name of Port Augusta after the wife of Sir Henry Fox Young (1808–70), governor of South Australia (1848–54) and of Tasmania (1855–61). Its Aboriginal name means ‘᾽Place of Drifting Sand’.
