Perry

Perry, Canada, USA USA: twelve cities have this name, a substantial number in tribute to Captain Oliver Hazard Perry (1785–1819), an American naval officer who gained almost legendary status after defeating a British squadron at the Battle of Lake Erie in the 1812 war. Perrysburg in New York and Perryville in Missouri are also named after him.

Perry ♂ Pet form of Peregrine, or transferred use of the surname Perry, in origin a local name for someone who lived by a pear tree (Old English pirige). In modern times, it has been borne by the American singer Perry Como (1912–2001), whose name was originally Nick Perido.
