Penrith, Australia, UK 1. Australia (New South Wales): founded in 1815 as Evan and then renamed Castlereagh. In 1818 it was renamed again after the English town.2. UK (England): could mean ‘Hill Ford’, ‘Chief Ford’, or ‘End of the Ford’ from the Welsh pen ‘hill’, ‘chief’, or ‘end’ and the Old Welsh rit ‘ford’.
