Pembroke
Pembroke, Canada, Tobago, UK, USA 1. Canada (Ontario): founded in 1828 and named after the Honourable Sidney Herbert (1810–61), second son of the 11th Earl of Pembroke and later 1st Baron Herbert of Lea; he was secretary for war (1852–4, 1859–60).2. UK (Wales): formerly Pennbro and Pembroch ‘Land at the End’ from the Welsh pen ‘end’ and bro ‘land’. The Welsh name is Penfro.3. USA (New Hampshire): named after Henry Herbert (1693–1751), 9th Earl of Pembroke, a Lord Justice while King George II† was out of the country in 1740, 1743, and 1748; he was related by marriage to the governor of New Hampshire, Benning Wentworth.
