Paul Émile Chabas
Paul Émile Chabas , 1869–1937, French academic painter. He is remembered chiefly for his nude, September Morn, which created a sensation when it was exhibited in 1912. It was sold to a Russian, hidden during the Russian Revolution, and in 1935 rediscovered in a private collection in Paris. It is now owned by the Metropolitan Museum. |

Oberhoffer, Emil
Oberhoffer, Emil (b Munich, 1867; d San Diego, Calif., 1933). Ger.-born pianist and conductor (Amer. cit. 1893). Went to USA in 1885. Settled in St Paul, Minn., 1897 as cond. of local mus. soc. His efforts led in 1903 to formation of Minneapolis SO, which he cond. until 1922. See Minnesota Orch.
