Somer, Paul van
Somer, Paul van (c.1577–1621/2). Flemish portrait painter who settled in England in 1616 and became—with Cornelius Johnson and Daniel Mytens—the leading portraitist working at the court of James I. His finest work is Queen Anne of Denmark (1617, Royal Coll.), an imposing full-length, but more archaic in style than similar portraits by Mytens.
