Pamphylia

Pamphylia An area in SW Asia Minor in which Jews were living in the 2nd cent. BCE (1 Macc. 15: 23) and which was included in Paul's itinerary. At Perga John Mark left the party (Acts 13: 13) and at Attalia Paul and Barnabas boarded a ship for Antioch (Acts 14: 24–6). Pamphylia was raised to provincial status by the Romans in 74 CE.

Pamphylia

Pamphylia , ancient region of S Asia Minor, on the coast between Lycia and Cilicia, in present S Turkey. Its chief cities were Attalia, Side, and Perga. Pamphylia was not a political unit, except in the provincial administration of Rome, to which it passed after the surrender (188 BC) of Antiochus III .

Pamphylia, Turkey An ancient district with a Greek name ‘(Colony of) all Races’ from pan ‘all’ and pheeli ‘race’, that indicated that different tribes lived here.
