PDA

PDA Abbreviation for personal digital assistant; a small hand-held device that allows the user to store and retrieve information, such as addresses, telephone numbers, dates, etc. PDAs are used as personal organizers and can usually transfer data to or from a personal computer. Many now also combine other functions, such as cellphones, paging systems, and wireless e-mail. See also palmtop computer.

1. A handheld computer providing personal data such as telephone numbers and addresses, diary management, and, increasingly, e-mail and Internet connectivity with wired or wireless connection. Many products are available and convergence with mobile telephones and the use of color LCDs make this a very fast-changing area.
