Oireachtas

Oireachtas

Oireachtas. Under the constitution of the Irish Free State the Oireachtas (legislature) consisted of the king, the Dáil, and the Senate. It had ‘sole and exclusive power’ to make laws, although provision was made for subordinate legislatures and vocational councils. In the 1937 constitution of Ireland the only major change was that the king was replaced by the president.
