North America Nebula

North America Nebula A diffuse nebula in Cygnus, also known as NGC 7000, shaped like the continent of North America. Its dimensions are about 2° × 1½° and it lies 1500 l.y. away. Its illuminating star is thought to be a 6th-magnitude hot, blue star within the nebula, HR 8023. Next to the North America Nebula lies the Pelican Nebula, actually part of the same enormous cloud which stretches for 100 l.y.
