Nokomis
Nokomis, Canada, USA Both are named after Nokomis, daughter of the moon, in Longfellow's poem Hiawatha. She raises Hiawatha and helps him to acquire the wisdom and strength appropriate for a Native American leader. Nokomis is an Ojibwa word meaning ‘grandmother’. There is also a Lake Nokomis in Saskatchewan, Canada.
