Froment, Nicolas (d. 1483/4). French painter. He probably came from northern France, but he worked in Avignon. Two documented works by him survive, both triptychs: The Raising of Lazarus (1461, Uffizi, Florence) and The Burning Bush (1476, Aix-en-Provence Cathedral). They show that with Quarton he introduced Netherlandish naturalism to French art. His figures have strong if sometimes clumsy expressions and gestures, while his draperies have a characteristic angularity reminiscent of some of the works of the Spanish and German followers of Rogier van der Weyden.

Froment, Nicolas (d ?Avignon, 1483/4). French painter. He perhaps came from northern France, but his known career was spent in the south; he is first recorded in 1465 at Uzès in Languedoc and he worked mainly in Avignon. Two documented works by him survive, both triptychs: the Raising of Lazarus (1461, Uffizi, Florence) and The Burning Bush (1476, Aix-en-Provence Cathedral). They show that with Quarton he introduced Netherlandish naturalism to French art.
