Hytner, Nicholas
Hytner, Nicholas (b Manchester, 1956). Eng. theatre and opera director. Prod. Weill's The Threepenny Opera while at Cambridge. First prof. opera prod. was The Turn of the Screw for Kent Opera, 1979, also directing Le nozze di Figaro (1981) and King Priam (1983) for this co. For ENO prod. Rienzi (1983), Xerxes (1985), The Magic Flute (1988), and The Force of Destiny (1992). CG début 1987 with Sallinen's The King Goes Forth to France, followed by Tippett's The Knot Garden (1988). Glyndebourne 1991 (La clemenza di Tito). Prods. abroad incl. Paris 1987, Geneva 1989. In the th., his prods. incl. The Scarlet Pimpernel, Miss Saigon, Edward II, Carousel (Nat. Th. 1992), The Madness of George III, and The Importance of Being Earnest.
