Mycenaean art
Mycenaean art. A term applied to the art of Greece in the Late Bronze Age (Late Helladic Period), that is, from about 1500 to about 1100 bc. Usually the term embraces the art not only of the mainland, but also of the Greek Islands with the exception of Crete (see Minoan art). Mycenaean art is named after the fortress-city of Mycenae, the site of the most important remains, which was excavated by the German archaeologist Heinrich Schliemann in the 1870s.
