Muscovy
Muscovy (Moskoviya), Moscow/Russia A historic principality founded in the 13th century by Prince Daniel, the youngest son of St Alexander Nevsky (c.1200–63). It was named after Moscow, then a fortified settlement at its centre at the confluence of the Moscow and Neglinka Rivers. The Muscovite princes gradually extended their authority territorially, but it was not until the 17th century that the name Russia was adopted.

Muscovy
Muscovy a medieval principality in west central Russia, centred on Moscow, which formed the nucleus of modern Russia. As Muscovy expanded, princes of Muscovy became the rulers of Russia; in 1472 Ivan III, grand duke of Muscovy, completed the unification of the country, and in 1547 Ivan the Terrible became the first tsar of Russia.
