Mourning Dove
Mourning Dove (1888–1936),storyteller. Her Native American name was Hum‐Ishu‐Ma, and she is thought to be the first Native American novelist, publishing late in life Cogewea the Half‐Blood: A Depiction of the Great Montana Cattle Range (1927). She also recorded Okanagan songs and stories.
