Mount Tabor 1,929 ft (588 m) high, N Israel, in Galilee. Ruins of an ancient stronghold crown its summit. Mt. Tabor is surrounded by growing Israeli towns and settlements.

Tabor, Mount In the plain of Esdraelon, and the scene in the OT of Barak's assembly of his forces (Judg. 4: 6) and of the death of Gideon's brothers (Judg. 8: 18). Although not mentioned in the NT, it has traditionally, but improbably, been regarded as the site of Jesus' transfiguration (Mark 9: 2). Tabor was not a ‘high mountain’; Mount Hermon, near Caesarea Philippi, seems the more probable location.
