Moulin Rouge

Moulin Rouge

Moulin Rouge, Paris, well-known dance-hall which opened in 1889, including in its amenities a large garden used in the summer for dancing and entertainments. A constant feature of its programmes has been a cabaret show, in which the cancan made its first appearance, the dancers in 1893 being Grille d'Egout, la Goulue, la Môme Fromage, and Nini-patte-en-l'air. Mistinguett was for some years part-proprietor of the Moulin Rouge and frequently appeared there, as did most of the stars of variety and music-hall.
