Morton, George
Morton, George (1585–1624),converted to Puritanism by William Brewster, became closely associated with the leaders of the movement in England and Holland. When others went to America, he returned to England to become the chief agent of the Pilgrims. At this time he used the name Mourt, and Mourt's Relation is the title generally given to A Relation …of the …Plantation Setled at Plimoth …⧫ (1622). Morton came to New England in 1623, where his son Nathaniel Morton was later prominent.

Morton
Morton ♂ Transferred use of the surname, in origin a local name from any of the numerous places so called from Old English mōrtūn ‘settlement by or on a moor’. It is also widely used as a Jewish name, having been adopted as an approximate English equivalent of Moses.
