Middlesex

Middlesex

Middlesex, Belize, UK, USA UK (England): formerly Middelseaxon and Midelsexe. A former county meaning ‘(Land of the) Middle Saxons’ from middel and Seaxe. The area lay between the East Saxons (Essex) and West Saxons (Wessex) and extended beyond the boundaries of the county which ceased to exist in 1965. The Middle Saxons' territory later became a province of the Kingdom of the East Saxons.

Middlesex borough (1990 pop. 13,055), Middlesex co., N central N.J.; inc. 1913. The borough has diversified manufacturing industries that include the production of adhesives, plastics, and chemicals.
