Mediterranean forest
Mediterranean forest The climatic climax of most of the Mediterranean basin, now virtually destroyed and over vast areas replaced by garrigue and maquis. The trees were evergreen, both conifers and broad-leaved hardwoods. They were probably mixed, but there may well also have been segregation of the two types.
