Green, Matthew
Green, Matthew (1697–1737), is remembered for his poem The Spleen (1737), which praises in fluent octosyllabics the simple life and describes his dream of ‘a farm some twenty miles from town’ where he could live on ‘two hundred pounds half-yearly paid’.
