New Zealand (South Island): a unitary authority named after John Churchill (1650–1722), 1st Duke of Marlborough and a successful military commander at the highest level.2. UK (England): formerly Merleberge, possibly ‘Mrla's Hill’ from an Old English personal name and beorg, or from the Old English meargealla ‘gentian’, thus ‘Hill where Gentian grows’.3. USA (Connecticut): probably named after the 1st Duke of Marlborough.
