Marina

Marina

Marina ♀ From a Late Latin name, a feminine form of the family name Marinus. This was in fact a derivative of Marius, a traditional name of uncertain derivation, but even during the early centuries ad it was widely assumed to be identical with the Latin adjective marinus ‘of the sea’. The early saints of this name are all of very doubtful historical authenticity.

marina

marina, a term said to have originated since the Second World War (1939–45) in the USA to describe a sheltered man-made harbour comprising a complex of floating piers and jetties which provides safe berths for yachts. Normally, marinas also have such facilities as food stores and a chandlery for yacht owners, and often a yacht club, too.
