Lystra

Lystra , ancient city of Lycaonia, S Asia Minor, in present Turkey. The Acts of the Apostles reports that it was visited by Paul and Barnabas. An ancient altar found there mentioned the city and helped to identify the site.

Lystra A Roman colony 40 km. (25 miles) SW of Iconium; it boasted a temple to Zeus (Acts 14: 11–13) and when Paul and Barnabas visited the place they were taken to be the gods Hermes and Zeus after enabling a cripple to walk (Acts 14: 8–12).
