Lunenburg
Lunenburg, Canada, USA Canada (Nova Scotia): originally the site of the Native American village of Malliggeak, it was granted by Oliver Cromwell (1599–1658), lord protector of England (1653–8), in 1656 to Charles de Saint‐Étienne de La Tour, governor of Acadia. However, it was not settled until Germans from Lüneburg and some Swiss arrived in the 1750s. They named their settlement after the royal house of Brunswick‐Lüneburg, of which the British king, George II†, was also Duke.
