Lugo
Lugo, Italy, Spain 1. Italy (Emilia‐Romagna): derived from the Latin lucus ‘wood’, specifically here a ‘sacred grove’ as opposed to a wild wood.2. Spain (Galicia): a province and a city having the same meaning as the Italian town, although its original Roman name was Lucus Augusti ‘Sacred Grove of Augustus’.

Lugo
Lugo , city (1990 pop. 81,493), capital of Lugo prov., NW Spain, in Galicia, on the Miño River. The city is the processing and trade center for a fertile farm area. One of the largest slaughterhouses in Spain is in Lugo. It has well-preserved Roman walls (3d cent. BC) and a 12th-century cathedral (restored). |
